This festival began in March 2023 when, driven by the desire to enrich cultural life in downtown Coimbra, we realised that the city could benefit from a new film festival that would also contribute to local film culture. We launched an open call for filmmakers to submit their films to a future festival that was still unknown to everyone. To our surprise, we received over 200 submissions of documentaries from more than 40 countries.

We then formed a curatorial team, dedicated to seeking out recent films from all over the world, with diverse poetics and approaches, unique works that map the contemporary documentary film scene, questioning themselves and the themes they portray.
